Learn about the various tools and technology that are officially supported and made available to campuses. The following tools are supported and maintained by a consortium of SUNY professionals and vendors that provide a robust transfer ecosystem that can be used by each SUNY campus.
Core SUNY-supported tools are officially recognized and supported tools that are required for use by the SUNY System. Core tools are centrally supported using SUNY-wide resources and staff. The use of core tools represents a significant cost-savings per campus, and helps SUNY collectively develop and support novel and innovative approaches to transfer advising and student support.
Degree Works is a comprehensive, web-based degree audit tool designed to help students and advisors track academic progress and plan for graduation. Degree Works helps students stay on track for graduation and make informed decisions about their academic paths. The main feature of Degree Works is degree auditing, which provides a detailed review of past, current, and planned coursework, showing which requirements are complete and which are still needed for a degree, major, or certificate. Students can also run "What-If" audits to see how completed and in-progress courses would apply to different majors, minors, or certificates they might be considering. In addition, there are added advisor notes functions and a Student Educational Planner that gives advisors the ability to provide planning guides, class guidance and reminders about academic requirements and goals.
Degree Works is supported by the SICAS Center, who maintain the environments and provide support to campus technical and functional contacts. Degree Works environments and databases are maintained by SUNY ITEC.
The Transfer Finder tool simplifies the transfer process by providing clear, detailed information about how courses will transfer and apply to transfer programs within the SUNY System. Students are able to seamlessly review how their current coursework at one institution will apply to another based on the specific program requirements, and actual coursework already completed - all without needing to provide course data or upload transcripts. Students can select up to three programs to see a side-by-side comparison of how coursework may transfer. The tool also works with SUNY Transfer Paths, showing how courses fulfill core requirements across different SUNY schools.
Transfer Finder is supported by the SICAS Center, who maintain the environments and provide support to campus technical and functional contacts. Transfer Finder requires the use of Degree Works.
The SUNY Transfer Equivalency Platform is a centralized platform designed to provide critical transfer equivalency and catalog data. The provision of this data is used to develop tools and approaches to help students, faculty, and staff navigate the transfer process within the SUNY system. The platform serves as a central resource for anyone involved in the transfer process, providing easy access to equivalency data. The platform is designed to work with multiple information systems, making it adaptable and widely accessible to all SUNY campuses.
The SUNY Transfer Equivalency Platform is supported by the SUNY OTA, with support from the SICAS Center and SUNY ITEC.
Students, faculty and staff may use the SUNY Transfer Navigator to learn how courses transfer between SUNY schools, find transfer-focused points of contact on SUNY campuses, and explore SUNY courses. The Navigator is centrally hosted and managed by SUNY OTA, and can be utilized by all campuses and the public.
Campuses can view and manage transfer paths and transfer path courses online using a series of transfer path tools made available as part of STEP. Resources include the planner, core course lookup and University-wide catalog functions.
The following tools are available to all campuses, but are not explicitly required. Campuses interested in the following tools should contact their on-campus information technology teams to begin exploring these options.
The Transfer Equivalency Self-Service tool empowers non-SUNY students to make informed decisions about transfer plans by providing them with a means to see how their completed courses taken at a non-SUNY institution will transfer to a SUNY institution. Operating similarly to Transfer Finder, TESS gives all students to ability to create degree audit, by entering their coursework directly. TESS provides an unofficial assessment of how current coursework aligns with the requirements of the target SUNY school. This helps students understand their standing before speaking with an admissions counselor or academic advisor. By sharing the results, the on-boarding and admission discussion and process is easier and more transparent.
Transfer Equivalency Self Service is supported by the SICAS Center, who maintain the environments and provide support to campus technical and functional contacts. TESS requires the use of Degree Works.
While not exclusively for Transfer Students, the Student Educational Planner (SEP) is part of the supported suite of tools and is a critical tool for transfer planning. The SEP is a tool designed to help matriculated, current students and advisors plan academic coursework and track progress towards graduation and/or transfer. Students can map out their courses for upcoming terms and beyond, helping them stay on track to meet their academic goals. The SEP allows students to plan their courses by term, providing a clear roadmap of what courses to take and when to help reduce time to degree and ensure completion of all requirements. Advisors can review and provide feedback on students' plans, ensuring that the planned courses align with degree requirements and academic goals.
