The Financial Aid Consortium Agreement establishes a university-wide financial aid arrangement that enables any SUNY student who is eligible for aid, matriculated in an eligible program, and enrolled at a SUNY campus, to register for academic credit at another SUNY campus. Program-applicable credits may be combined into a full-time load for financial aid purposes using the SUNY Financial Aid Consortium Agreement.
You will use the official SUNY Cross-registration process to utilize financial aid at your home and host SUNY campus. This process allows your home campus, and the host campus to exchange required records and approvals quickly, safely, and securely to facilitate your registration. SUNY does not accept or allow the use of seperate forms or processes.
When you apply, your home campus advisor, the registrar's office and the financial aid office will verify your information and determine your eligibility. As part of this process, your advisor and the financial aid office will need to ensure your credits can be applied to your requirements, and that aid can be used for cross-registration. If they determine you are eligible, they will approve the request, and send needed financial aid and tuition information to the host campus.
The host campus will also verify your enrollment and provide required information to the home campus. Because the tuition is managed between the two campuses, you will not recieve a bill from the host campus. Your enrollment will be included in your full time tuition.
You are not required to use the consortium benefit to cross-register for a course. If you are not utilizing financial aid, you will still receive the benefit of paying only full-time tuition without additional tuition charges from the host when you are approved to cross-register.
You cannot be charged for campus comprehensive fees or other broad-based fees by the host campus. In general, the only fees you would be responsible for would be lab, materials or course supply fees (when they are listed in the course catalog and charged to all students) or fees associated with your optional use of services like parking, gyms, or space/equipment rental. If you receive a bill for any other fees, please consult with your home campus registrar's office or financial aid office for assistance.
You are strongly advised to consult with your home campus advisor and financial aid advisor to understand the impact a summer or winter cross-registration may have on your financial aid eligibility. Generally speaking, you must be enrolled at least half time (usually six credits) to be eligible for most forms of financial aid. In addition, using financial aid in summer and winter will normally be included in your annual eligibility calculations, and may reduce the aid available to you in fall and spring terms. For these reasons, you should carefully consider whether you choose to use financial aid when cross-registering in summer or winter sessions especially.
Please note that SUNY campuses are not required to offer cross-registration in summer and winter sessions. In addition, some campuses may only offer cross-registration when financial aid is being utilizied in summer or winter sessions.
