This course is intended for students contemplating a career in education. It is designed to provide an overview of early childhood education and the development of children from Birth – Age 8. Concepts of developmentally appropriate practice, the learning environment, teachers, diverse learners, classroom management, and issues facing all schools. In addition, students will be introduced to beginning principles of planning and become familiar with the New York State Learning Standards.
20 hours of field observation is required.
Core Courses are courses that fulfill lower-level requirements and apply to any transfer path major where they appear. Introduction to Early Childhood Education is universal course description, which maps to specific courses on SUNY campuses. Approved SUNY Transfer Path Core Courses are guaranteed to transfer to fulfill requirements in the major and/or required cognates (not just as electives) at all SUNY campuses if the course is completed with a grade of C or better.1 You may Search for Core Course equivalents using the Transfer Navigator.
